*Course Outline*



*Objective:*



To enable participants to acquire operational knowledge on Network Security
Operations, and be exposed to the best practices commonly adopted in the
industry.



*Who should attend? *



Technical staff with knowledge of networking protocols are encouraged to
attend the 3-days workshop. Participants should have a general idea of
networking protocols, Internet and TCP/IP Networks, as well as a basic idea
of Unix command line, and cisco router commands.

Participants should *bring their own laptop* for hands-on lab-work.

*Coverage:*



This workshop focuses mainly on technology. 40% of the workshop will cover
theory, 40% hands-on lab work and 20% on the current security practices.

·         Introduction to network and operational security

·         Security best practices for network engineers/operators

·         DDos protection techniques and tools

·         Network filtering and security logging

·         Routing security tools and techniques (RTBH, Sinkholes)

·         Implementation of security tools in the networks (Lab)



*Technologies covered: *



·         Routing Security, Edge and Core filtering, Control plane and data
plane, IPSEC, DNSSec,  RTBH, Sinkholes, Malware detection and reporting,
Trust communities, Security policies and issues.

*Who are the Instructor**s**?*



Gaurab Raj Upadhaya is Director, International Networking at Limelight
Networks. As part of the backbone engineering team, Gaurab supports
Limelight's high speed backbone in Asia, Europe and North America. Gaurab
previously worked for Packet Clearing House (PCH) as Senior Internet
Analyst (2002-2010) and ran PCH's global anycast DNS platform, providing
resilient domain name service for more than 100 top level domains from more
than sixty Internet exchange points around the world.



Gaurab is also the technical Director of the Nepal Research and Education
Network (NREN), which he designed and built. NREN is one of the emerging
NRENs in Asia, with full IPv4/IPv6 routing, as well as IPv4/IPv6 Multicast
service over the TEIN3 Backbone for it members.  During his career, he has
spoken and presented at INET, APRICOT, SANOG, APNIC, APAN NZNOG, MENOG,
AUSNOG, PHNOG, JANOG, AfNOG, NANOG, ICANN conferences as well as RIPE and
LINX Meetings.





Roland Dobbins is a Senior Analyst on Arbor’s ASERT Team. He has nearly 25
years of operational experience in the service provider (SP) and large
enterprise arenas, designing, deploying, operating, securing, maintaining,
troubleshooting and defending many of the highest-visibility networks in
the world. He is a recognized industry leader in the fields of operational
security (opsec) and network telemetry, and has an extensive background in
security product/feature innovation, devising operational security
requirements for network infrastructure devices and protocol design. His
focus is on extending the availability, scalability and security of the
network infrastructure and the applications/services it enables, with an
emphasis on flexible and resilient global service delivery capabilities.
